The List

No, this is not about the guest list for the wedding. This is about another very important list.

As some of you might know my boyfriend, *krhhm* fiancé, has about the coolest job in the world. He has opportunity to travel and see the world and someone is paying for that. This means that we will move to a new country every now and then, usually every 4 years. Next summer he's been living here in Wroclaw for four years and it's time to move on. Where - that we don't know yet.

And this is what THE LIST is about. Very soon we are supposed to receive a list of open positions around the world for next year. And from this list we will choose about 10 destinations where we would like to go. Exciting? Definetely!

For now we have the whole world open - we are not too picky where to move. I would like it to be quite warm country, and I would like there to be "normal" living conditions and some work opportunities for me too. With this I mean that we will propably not move to a country where women and men have very inequal rights. And we will propably not move to Siberia. Also in our wish list has been to move outside of Europe. As you can imagine our parents are not too glad about that. But we would not stay far forever, just for few years. ;)

Where would you go if you could live (almost) anywhere?

Where will we move? We'll see...

How did it happen?

Now I'm sure at least some of you are dying to know how it happened. The engagement I mean. So I will ease your curiosity and reveal some parts.

The ingredients were:
-home, just before going for our "1 year living together"-dinner
-huuuuge bouquet of red roses
-the most beautiful speech I've ever heard
-my favourite love song "Ja" by Silbermond
-one very nervous boyfriend <3

As I don't ever wear jewelry, my boyfriend wanted to ask me whether I would like to have a ring or not. We decided that we want to show everybody that we belong to each other, so the next day we bought very beautiful rings for both of us. I'm still getting used to wear the ring, but I have to admit that it looks very nice. <3

Und Ja ich atme dich
Ja ich brenn' für dich
Und Ja ich leb' für dich...jeden Tag
Und Ja ich liebe dich
Und Ja ich schwör' auf dich und jede meiner

Big news

So it happened that when I started to work, I got very lazy with the blog. Surprise, surprise.
Well now I've decided to shape up and start writing again.

The reason for this sudden inspiration is that I have big news!
Are you ready? Here it comes:

Live well. Laugh often. Love much.

Friday = Weekend = Freedom. Permission to sleep, eat and drink as much as you want anytime you want. It's a funny thing, how much you are waiting for it. Counting days, then hours. And suddenly again it's Monday and new week, another 5 days 'till next weekend.

I was always a bit irritated about office-people posting in Facebook "Friday!" "Weekend!!"  "....I hate Mondays..." and so on (I apologize already the day I'm gonna be one of them). My adult life has never before been determined by "office hours". Actually I used to dislike Fridays and Saturdays since they were the busiest and longest days at work. But today I felt I was part of the mass who thinks Friday is the second best thing in the world: right after public holiday on weekday. I'm so gonna be that person who complains when May Day is on weekend (MUAHAHAA).

Anyways this weekend will be again full of nice things: resting (because sitting in office 40 hours per week is soooo hard), yummy breakfast, meeting friends, testing my brand-new skis... :) And the best thing is that next week Tuesday will already be my Friday, and I will go to Rome to celebrate my good (old) dad. ;)

(I prefer fat & sugar, but anyhow..)

"Once there was a thing called Spring..."

Seems like again my busy life kept me from writing the blog (read: I was lazy).
Anyway, what has happened is that I have totally absorbed working woman's life, and the time when I was just at home every day seems like it was just a dream. :P But I'm having fun at work so I don't mind. My training period will last still some weeks, so I can take it quite easy. And I also have some holidays coming very soon, so for me stress is as unfamiliar feeling as being a lottery winner.

Week ago my friend and her boyfriend came to visit us. We had fun weekend: eating, drinking, sightseeing, bowling, shopping... Was sooo nice to have these very important guests here. <3

Earlier this week spring came to say hello, so I put on my tennarit and we went out to take some springy pictures. Unfortunately spring did not stay long this time, but I hope it will come back soon.

Yesterday was Women's day also here in Poland. Here it seems to be a bit bigger thing than for example in Finland. Guys are giving gifts and flowers to all women they know, not only their girlfriends. So I got to enjoy this at work where our team's only male-member gave us an amazing cake. And we got roses too. :) Good to be a woman. On Monday we will have a new team member, so we'll have more man power in our team. And of course my love did not forget to spoil me: I got flowers and we had dinner in a restaurant called Przystan. Lovely food and very romantic, I recommend! And they have propably the best view in the city, over the river and at the university. In summer I'm definetely gonna try their breakfast on the terrace.

This weekend I'm just gonna relaaax with a capital R. Busy times are ahead, so I might not have time for couchpotatoing.

"Katso ylös ja mitä sä näät
jotain keltaista ja pyöreää
se sinun sisältäsi sulattaa jään
ja saa sut jälleen hymyilemään
en kaipaa kultaakaan
loistavaa palloa vaan
mut jos se pois viedään
en selvii päivääkään"

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That's why we call it the present.*

So I've survived my very first week in the office. Actually I cannot say "survived" since it's been sooo nice. :) Our team is small and it has been easy to get to know everybody, I already had opportunity to work with all of them. I feel very welcomed, even they are mostly talking in Polish. But they promised to try harder to speak in English. And in March we will have another new team member, from Spain! So I will not be the only foreigner anymore. :)

I will have pretty long training period, so work should be quite easy-going for the next weeks. Part of my training will take place in Stockholm, which is of course exciting. I've never been on a business trip before, it makes me feel like a very important person to go. :P In Stockholm I will meet Finnish people who are doing my future job right now.

I felt like a kid in a candy shop when I got my own desk, laptop, pens and notebooks, and post-its in different colours! I also got e-mail with my own name and my own personal phone number. I feel so adult now! :P And I don't mean that working as a waitress is not adult, but you know...Or maybe you don't. In addition to these important factors, the actual job seems pretty interesting too. First time in a looong time I'm eager to go to work and learn more.

Oh, and one more positive thing that came into my mind conserning my new job: finally I can actually use the how-to-dress-trendy-to-work tips from women's magazines!

Oi maamme, Suomi, synnyinmaa...

I've just now really started to realize how special language Finnish is and how unusual it is to know how to speak it. Sometime ago I was considering whether it is useful to try to learn Polish or not, since there is only about 40 million people in the world knowing that language. 40 million! That's a bit more than 5 something million Finnish speakers. :P Few weeks back I met a Polish guy who claimed he can speak in Finnish. Of course I thought that he just knows some simple sayings, why would he really know how to speak Finnish?! But there he was asking questions in Finnish and I was answering in English, because I still could not believe he actually understands me. After a while, I was conviced enough and we had pretty long conversation. In Finnish. Incredible.

Here is new awesome music from one of my favourite Finnish bands, Haloo Helsinki! While listening their new CD, I realized how much I do actually miss hearing Finnish. It has some magical power that I can't find from English. Of course I get to speak it here too with some friends and in Skype, but it's not the same as hearing it all the time. This song is not really something I can relate to right now, and I don't like the music video (clips from some new Finnish movie, I guess? Levottomat 8?), but ah, listen the beautiful, unique mother language of mine!

While travelling I've sometimes had my suspicions about the real amount of Finnish people. It seems like everywhere you go, you'll meet some of us. Even in the smallest villages on the other side of the world. You would think that this 5-point-something million people would just vanish like fart in the wind among over 7 billion. (And how much of this 5-point-something million is actually travelling?) Did you ever have the same experience? Maybe we've been cheated, and we are not such a small nation after all..?
